Homemade Facial Peel

Q: With the change in weather I find my skin looking dull and needing a refresher. Is there an affordable remedy I can try at home?

A: We have always loved the idea of homemade beauty products, especially plant-based do-it-yourself products. So in the thick of pumpkin season, we’re using raw pumpkin as a facial peel! This combo of very accessible ingredients feels so nourishing, tightening and cooling on the face. A gentle peel can refresh tired-looking skin by helping to slough off dead skin and promote more radiant-looking skin. According to skin expert Suzanne Weaver, due to its enzymes and nutrients, pumpkin can be used as a “natural , safe ‘peel’. Great for plumping collagen and exfoliating dead skin away!” Here’s our recipe for this raw, easy-to-make peel:

  • 1 cup raw pumpkin, peel removed and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water

Blend the ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Apply a small amount to your face (just enough to thinly coat the skin, staying clear of eyes and nostrils) and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with water. Store for 3-4 days in an air tight jar in the fridge.
