Peppermint Hot Mocha Latte

‘Tis the season for candy canes and festive coffee drinks! But we can avoid the long coffee shop line ups and unnecessary calories by making our own decadent hot drinks. This Peppermint Hot Mocha Latte has been upgraded and redefined! By using real, unprocessed cacao (or cocoa) powder, it contains iron, magnesium and fibre helping us stay healthier throughout the season. Plus, it is much lower in health-sabotaging sugars than the popular coffee shop concoctions we often crave allowing us to enjoy often, guilt-free. I prefer mine made with almond milk, making this delicious hot drink dairy-free, but it tastes great using any favourite milk beverage.

Peppermint Hot Mocha Latte

Makes one cup.

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any vanilla or plain milk of choice)
  • 1 ounce (or 1 shot) of good quality espresso
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder, unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey (or any other sweetener of choice such as maple syrup or organic cane sugar)
  • ½ teaspoon pure peppermint extract
  • Optional – candy cane as a tasty stir stick (preferably organic or “natural”)

Gently heat the milk over medium heat. Add all the ingredients and whisk until well incorporated. Remove from heat and enjoy!
