5-Ingredient Healthy ‘Nutella’

Who doesn’t love that classic chocolate-hazelnut flavour combination?

Growing up in an Italian household, breakfast or snack wasn’t complete without a hearty dose of Nutella! Although we’ve grown up, those cravings for all things chocolate and nutty haven’t left us! But nowadays we’re trying to opt for healthier and cleaner eating and avoid the excess sugars, oils and additives found in most processed foods. Here’s our healthy spin on the classic chocolate-hazelnut spread, sweetened without any refined sugars, and using pure, natural cocoa. Vegan, paleo-friendly, and free of gluten & dairy. Spread this on top of toast, or as a healthy icing for muffins, but yummy enough to eat by the spoonful.

5-ingredient Healthy ‘Nutella’

  • 2 cups roasted hazelnuts*
  • 1 cup medjool or other pitted dates
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2-4 tablespoons maple syrup (start with 2, add more if necessary)
  • 1 cup water

*if you have raw hazelnuts, roast at 300 degrees F for 10 min, stirring halfway through.

Place the first four ingredients into a food processor, begin blending by adding half of the water. Continue to blend and add the water until you reach a creamy consistency. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
